"Freedom has to be learnt through the ascesis, the ascetic discipline, of precise observation and imaginative thinking; and then it needs to be defended with courage and self sacrifice. As Nicolas Berdyaev observed, 'Freedom gives birth to suffering, while the refusal to be free diminishes suffering. Freedom is not easy, as its enemies and slanderers allege: freedom is hard; it is a heavy burden. Men, as Dostoevsky has shown with such amazing power, often renounce freedom to ease their lot.' Yet if we renounce freedom, we become less than truly human; and if we deny others their freedom, we dehumanize them."

Shouted And Whispered Thanks

Today is a very low-energy day for me, and I was struggling with deciding on today's post. Would I write on the Oprah cult rumours, the flag-on-the-floor experiment or any number of issues of presidential election mayhem?

Then I wandered over to Blackfive and found two pieces of news that were too good to ignore:

1) Lone Survivor is going to become a movie, and according to Blackfive, it will be a high-level production. I'm not surprised; the literary agent (a Brit) who handled Lone Survivor is absolutely top-notch, and he probably did an excellent job of brokering a deal with Hollywood. This just might be the movie we've been waiting for. And let me squash one rumor before it begins. Yes, a few months ago I made an online comment about being willing to write the screenplay. But for better of for worse, I can't take credit for this one. It was probably being planned long before the thought entered my mind. Hopefully they have a screenwriter far better qualified than I.

2) Mullah Ismail is dead. Word is that he's the terrorist who fired the RPG at the MH-47 in 2005, killing 16 special forces troops.

I have trouble celebrating people going to hell, and I accept the deaths of terrorists as something necessary to prevent greater evil. But I find myself dangerously close to celebrating this one. I didn't personally lose anyone in the MH-47 attack, but friends lost friends and I do take that personally. The pain of the realities of war stop me short of a full celebration. But I cannot help but whisper thanks to God that this evil man is no longer wreaking havoc on Earth, and I pray for God's mercy and peace for all those who celebrate and grieve.

Hell!- If we celebrate the death of a bad guy- that puts us on the same level as him. No apologies for his death though, but no celebration either.

My faith tells me to love my enemies- I tell my faith .....Ok, but that is it really hard to forgive and love these types of people. I don't know if I would be forgiving if the US people killed were relatives.

Lone Survior Movie Script-
You WOULD have done it better! LOL.
