"Freedom has to be learnt through the ascesis, the ascetic discipline, of precise observation and imaginative thinking; and then it needs to be defended with courage and self sacrifice. As Nicolas Berdyaev observed, 'Freedom gives birth to suffering, while the refusal to be free diminishes suffering. Freedom is not easy, as its enemies and slanderers allege: freedom is hard; it is a heavy burden. Men, as Dostoevsky has shown with such amazing power, often renounce freedom to ease their lot.' Yet if we renounce freedom, we become less than truly human; and if we deny others their freedom, we dehumanize them."

The Little MilBloggers That Could

Have you noticed?

If you haven't, wander over to Blackfive. Then wander over to a few MSM sites. It's more subtle on the MSM but it's there.

The public is finally figuring out that we have the potential to win in Iraq.

And the victory is all the sweeter for the hard work we all put into it. This didn't just come from the White House Press Secretary, the military PAO or a few reporters with integrity. You and I fought this battle too. We're the concerned citizens, the soldiers in the sandbox, the retired fighting men and women who refuse to let politicians sneak off with the private victories and turn them into defeats.

At a time when the politicians sought to divide us with the high cost of war and unite us against our elected leader, Americans everywhere remembered that we're not just fighting for Iraqi of Afghan freedom, we're fighting for each other. We're fighting for our freedom of speech, we're fighting for the chance for millions of boys and girls to go freely to school today. We're fighting for our brothers and sisters, sons and daughters, so that they can hold their heads high as they walk through an airport in their ACUs, knowing that they're coming home after a job well done. And we're fighting so that Tuesday, September 11 2007 can be a day that we face with a sense of victory rather than fear, knowing that we have not let the terrorists win.

You're doing this, America. Yes, you. You're digging through opinion-based journalism to find the facts, and you're making those facts known. You're making those facts known. And you're uniting with Americans from all walks of life who refuse to give in to a spirit of defeat.

Keep up the good work. Other nations have special people too, but you, America, are unique.

God Bless You, America.
